Ten Things that Block People's Deliverance

Ten Things That Block People’s Deliverance

www.invictaministries.org

I believe I speak for every minister of deliverance when I say the following:  the most heartbreaking thing in this ministry is seeing people who are obviously in desperate need of deliverance but for one reason or another, just don’t succeed in taking possession of their spiritual healing. In other words, they need deliverance, but for whatever reason, they just don’t get it.

I often preach that deliverance, like salvation, is not automatic. You must be intentional about it.

In the case of salvation, you need to be intentional. You need to admit that you have sin and that you need to repent (turn from) your sin. Next, you need to be intentional and call on Christ in faith and confess Him as your Savior and Lord.

And the pattern of deliverance is similar: First, you need to admit that you have a problem (your oppression). Next, you need to exercise—in faith—the authority and power that you have as a believer of Christ to command the devil to go.

In other words, in order to get delivered from spiritual oppression, you need to purpose in your heart to get free and then you need to execute. You need to be intentional about it. Getting free is not automatic. You need to take hold of your spiritual Promised Land.

This last part is often difficult for many people who need deliverance. I speak to many, many people who know that they are oppressed by demons. They know they have demons on the inside of them sabotaging them. They are the first to admit it. They hear voices telling them to commit suicide, they experience sexual violation at night by unclean spirits, they see shadows and feel things in their body. They have all sorts of torment. Yet, for one reason or another, they fail to go after their deliverance and really get free.

Here, I want to give ten possible reasons for why this might be happening. These are reasons that I have seen in actual deliverance cases I have dealt with in my ministry. This isn’t theory.

They are factors that cause tormented people—maybe people just like you—not to get the deliverance that they need.  As you read through the list, ask yourself:

Is one of these blockages stopping you from getting Christ’s deliverance in your life?

1   1.   Constantly on the hunt for someone who has enough anointing to cast out their demons.

These people say, “If I can just find someone with enough anointing, then I will be able to get free.” They travel far and wide to find the priest or pastor who is powerful enough to handle their difficult situation.

In the end, they never get healed because they never really allow the Holy Spirit to lead them to the one deliverance minister that God has planned for them. And if they find this person, they quickly “realize” that he or she doesn’t have enough anointing to deal with their difficult and unique situation.

They then quickly renew their search for the next deliverance minister or ministry—the one that really can set them free. And the cycle repeats.

2.     Not willing to accept that deliverance is a process.

People who know my ministry know that I often preach Deuteronomy 7:22:

The LORD your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you. (emphasis mine)

People are impatient. They want everything right here and now. It is the “drive-thru deliverance” mentality. I have had Deliverance Encounters with people in which the Holy Spirit moved powerfully to cause the expulsion of many demons. Then, days later when they realize there are still some demons that oppress them, they completely call into question their healing. They begin to doubt that they ever had any healing to begin with. They wanted everything to be out after one prayer.

Simply stated, they are not willing to persevere and fight over the long run.

3.  Not willing to make a sacrifice.

I have seen people who knew they had demons yet weren’t willing to drive 60 minutes from Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale to meet with Pastor Jana and me for a Deliverance Encounter. “That is just too far of a distance,” they would say.

I love to tell the story of when Jesus healed the paralytic in the crowded house in Capernaum. Since the house was so full of the multitude of people who were listening to Jesus preach, there was no way to get into the house through the door.  However, this paralytic and his friends were not going to give up. The four friends and the paralytic were determined to see the hand of God move in their lives that day. So, they carried the paralytic up onto the roof of this house and proceeded to dig a hole through the roof and then lowered the paralytic down into the room where Jesus was. And you know what? He got his healing. He ended up picking up his mat and walking out of that house praising God!

This is the kind of attitude one needs to have. You need to have the attitude of “I will not stop until I get delivered! I will not take no for an answer! I will do whatever it takes to get healed! I want my healing more than the air that I breathe! I will persevere!”

4.     Not willing to submit to the authority of the deliverance minister.

I have seen this on more than one occasion. This issue manifests when the person being ministered to has strongholds of pride. This pride does not allow them to submit to ministry—and really, to the Holy Spirit who is working through the pastor that is ministering the deliverance and healing.

And this inability to submit to ministry robs them of the blessing that God has for them through this particular deliverance minister. Read Matt. 10:41:

He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

In other words, if you don’t believe that someone has a blessing for you, then it will be impossible for you to get a blessing from them.

5.   Not willing to submit every area of his or her life to God.

The first part of James 4:7 (see my previous blog on this verse) tells us that we need to submit to God. How do we do this? We do this by inviting the Holy Spirit to take control of every part of our lives—including our healing.

Our submission to God will be made manifest in every area of our Christian walk: how we pray, how we study God’s Word, how we fast, how we praise and worship and even how we give.

A person’s deliverance will be proportional to how much he or she is willing to submit his or her life to God.

6.   Not willing to give up a particular sin area.

I have seen deliverance get totally hindered because the person is secretly submitting to pornography, drugs or alcohol. I have also seen the sin of superstition—really a form of witchcraft—block deliverance. One person who I have ministered to hid hundreds of little pieces of paper around their house, each with a Bible verse, to act as talismans to ward off evil spirits.

Any time, we do not call on the name of Jesus, in faith, to overcome the enemy, witchcraft is taking place. And witchcraft is a sure way to keep your demons!

7.   Not willing to suffer.

When I minister to a person with demons, it is highly likely that there will be some form of demonic manifestation. However, for some people, this manifestation of demons can be physically or emotionally painful. This is especially the case when demons of Pain or Torment are indwelling the person.

Regardless of the level of discomfort, it is absolutely necessary to make these demons go. We are called to cast out the demons in the Great Commission (Mark 16). The demons that have gained access to people’s souls and bodies are hard at work stealing, killing and destroying their victim from the inside.

Even though this is the case, some people don’t want to go through the discomfort of deliverance to just get rid of them once and for all.

These are people who would choose to live with their demons instead of going through some temporary discomfort. This situation reminds me of the Israelites who griped to Moses wishing that they had just stayed back in Egypt:

Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!   Exodus 14:12

Amazingly people today still act like the Israelites. They would prefer to live in bondage than go through the pressure of the spiritual olive press and get free!

8.  They want the power that the demons give them more than they want spiritual freedom.

Many people don’t realize that demons will give you power if you are willing to make a deal with them. When a person enters into a relationship with their demons because of some “benefit” that the person receives, these demons become known as “familiar spirits.”

The most common type of familiar spirit is a spirit of divination. All psychics have familiar demons such as these to do their fortune telling. We see an example of this in Acts 16:16:

As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.

Another common familiar spirit is Jezebel. Usually this relationship exists with women who grow addicted to the power that Jezebel gives them to manipulate and control men.

Bottom line: if a person comes to me for ministry, I tell them that they must be willing to totally renounce all their demons without hesitation—even if it means giving up some perceived “benefit.” If they are unable to renounce their demons, then it is unlikely that they will go, even when commanded to leave in the name of Jesus.

9.  Something in them wants to control the direction of the deliverance. They want their deliverance to be a certain way.

This one is related to #4. I have had demonized people tell me in the middle of a Deliverance Encounter that they do not want to go this part or that part of their life. I have been told things like, “I want to talk about my childhood, not my sexual perversion (fornication, etc.).” I have also heard things like, “You can’t use your cross.”

Basically, in these cases, the enemy is trying to hijack the healing. If the deliverance minister submits to these types of demands, he gives power to the unclean spirits who are so desperate to stay in their victim.

I tell people that during a Deliverance Encounter, I need to have free reign to go wherever the Holy Spirit leads me. If I need to probe a painful adultery issue or go to a molestation, I must be allowed to do so. If I am led to anoint with oil or touch them with my cross, then I must have the latitude to do so.

Imagine if the blind man in John 9:6 had told Jesus the following: “I will allow you to heal my blindness, but not with the mud.”

A minister of deliverance must only be guided and prompted by the Holy Spirit. By not doing so, he or she might just be submitting to the demands of a demon.

10.  Not knowing who they are in Christ.

It is absolutely crucial that the person being ministered to knows the power and authority they have over the enemy. Many Christians (and not just new Christians by the way) are not aware of this fact.

When we confess Jesus as our Lord and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell inside of us, a powerful gift of authority is given.

This new believer in Christ now has, as an ambassador of Christ, authority and power over every force of darkness. Take for example Luke 9:1:

When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases,

Without faith in this promise of God, a victim of demonic torment will not be able to faithfully command the enemy to go by the authority that they rightfully have in Jesus.

If you doubt or are unsure of your authority in Christ, I suggest that you meditate on the following verses:

Mark 13:34  For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Luke 10:19   I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Matt. 18:18 "Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Huge blessings,

Pastor Mark
